Verse of the Day: Action Bronson - "Choices"

This is an Asher Roth song featuring Action Bronson. I don't really listen to Action Bronson.

If you would be so gracious as to follow me under the jump, you'll find the verse, and discussion. If you can't follow me because you're thrown off by how blue Bronson's eyes look in that picture, I'll completely understand.

First of all, don’t ever say a fuckin thing about the homie
call a favor in and leave your dyke mother very lonely
you a phony doggy, holy shit
know the flow exquis-
eyes low, one-handed I control the whip
no reservations needed to get the table
I walk in, the chef calls me “chef” that’s my label
Shaved Ricotta Salada, infuse the oil, basil
standing like a man in situations, get disabled
a lot of hundreds in the jacket pocket
know I blast the rocket, lift you in the air, just like an astronaut is
lack the passion novice, we play on All-Madden
old glow jackets, Navajo padded
been a grown man since the day I was born, you strange and deformed
you sit at home while I get paid to perform
now we put em on the greyhound, 85 dollars
better choose wise bitchh, you fuckin with some scholars
old impalas, jumping like Rasheed Wallace
smoking joints like a barbecue pit
I'm honestly sick, some would say retarded and shit
my mind sharp cause I eat garlic and shit
swervin the whip quick, little dick..

Firstly, let's talk about Action Bronson. Since he began achieving fame, my attitude has been very stoutly "miss me with that." No hater shit, just I wasn't intrigued, and it's not like I'm starving for artists to listen to. I didn't give him a chance, and that was that. The ol' shuffle function took care of that yesterday as I was walking home. Am I hooked? Am I sold? No and no. Still. I'm not old enough to have revered Ghostface while I was on the come-up, so I'm not particularly worried about those comparisons. However, I quite enjoyed this verse. I like the All-Madden line, and the delicious (how often do you think that word appears in an Action Bronson post) imagery of "smoking joints like a barbecue pit". All I really knew about him was that he used to be a chef, and that he talks about it in his lyrics, and he didn't disappoint by referencing it a few times. Will I be downloading his tapes? No, he hasn't secured a spot in the rotation, but he now exists in  some part in my world. I am sure he'll be most pleased when he hears.

Secondly, there's the matter of Asher Roth. I luuuuurved Seared Foi Gras with Quince and Cranberry, but I still haven't gotten around to Pabst & Jazz. I definitely need to. It might be the last artistic caveat we get before Def Jam gives him his next chartopper. Don't think the "newfound" commercial viability of white MCs had nothing to do with Asher's signing. The single will be just as ubiquitous as "I Love College", and Roth will be back in the mainstream discussion.
