KWTers, #DRAKEWEEK pushes forward, stopping for no one. Yesterday, we pretty much buried the hatchet on
Comeback Season, but before we move forward to
So Far Gone (you might have heard of it?), we take a look at the first time Drake went in over Kanye production. An interesting moment, all things considered.
Today's Verse of the Day, and discussion, after the jump. Oh yeah, and this segment just got a whole lot doper. One word: footnotes.

2 Ditto this one.
3 Remember when Drake could reference Pete Rock, collaborate with The Clipse, and Slum Village, and Phonte, and was underground? Yeah, I barely do either.
4 We'll quote that, but when Yeezy goes Latino on us, we'll slap it on a shirt. 5 You'd apologize too if you were practically a nobody, and the guy gave you three features for your tape.
6 Us Canadians love our poutine.
Comeback Season had a lot of noteworthy verses, so I didn't really want to pick another song where Drake rapped all the way through. But, this is the first example of the Kanye/Drake dynamic, and is extremely noteworthy for that reason. I plan on exploring their artistic relationship in an upcoming feature for #DRAKEWEEK, so I won't go into crazy detail here. However, it's important to realize how hugely important this dynamic has been in Drake's progression, so we'll cover a few things today.
Firstly, let's consider that this is the first time we hear the two together, albeit Drake had to download this instrumental online like any other starving rapper. Fast forward a few years, and the two are in studio sessions, making those "pop tunes" that labels were pressing him for. My, how things change.
The second thing we have to realize, is that Drake completely and utterly raps his ass off here. He realizes a Kanye beat is a slab of history, and rises to the challenge. Don't think Drizzy, who's always been hyper-self-aware, doesn't know this. Hell, he even raps on So Far Gone "Future said, cuz it's Ye shit, you better kill". In hindsight, his (and 40's, don't underestimate his importance) understanding that Kanye production melds perfectly with the character Drake makes the change in sound that came with So Far Gone expected.
