Must Download: R&B Sunday Edition

Folks, it's a Sunday at Kids Wasting Time, a day of reflection, a day for wiping sleep out of your eyes, and a day for preparing for the coming week. And because everyday is 4/20, I spent all day listening to R&B, and it was the greatest day ever. You will now be forced to download all this shit I have just fallen in love with. If you refuse to download it, you will have to learn to live with that loss.

We'll leave pretentious, high-minded arguments as to why you should listen to what I'm offering at the door. Come on, it's 4/20, I can't manage it. After the jump, the music that delighted me on this fine Sunday.

Artist: The-Dream Terius Nash
Album: 1977

I am blown away by this. I know I'm super late, everyone already freaked out over the tape, but today was the first time I played it all the way through. It's so cold, and trill, and Dream's song structure is mind-blowing. It's also worth checking out because it exists as a fantastic story about a break-up, and that's always interesting.

Artist: Trey Songz
Album: Anticipation II

Late again (noticing a pattern), but this jams. This especially jams. I always thought Trey Songz was a corny pop-dude like Breezy, but I've come to realize that really isn't true. I guess you need those loud bangers to move albums, but Songz seems artistically comfortable here, within the relative safety of a mixtape release. This ain't pop, it's grimy, conscience-less R&B (with a bit of conscience!). Color me a Songz fan.

Artist: The Weeknd
Album: House of Balloons

I've pointed out before I've never give Abel much of a go, but I did today. It was fantastic. He gives you melodies that will stick with you all day. It's also kinda terrifying, but very atmospheric. Snag it.

Also, download buy Voodo, by D'Angelo.

  1. Dope list! I just downloaded that Trey Songz 'tape, my favorite track has to be Top Of The World, that shit is to smooth.

I'm not a big Weekend fan myself, but that 'tape did have some dope tracks!

Maybe I'll give 1977 a try later on this week

  2. Pedro! Nice to see you around here again. Top of the World is a big tune for sure. And yeah, you should definitely try 1977. Lemme know how that goes.
