I love college basketball, that's a given. March Madness is the best sporting event in North America. Forget the Super Bowl, it's only one game that's 4 hours long, this is weeks long, with the first two days lasting nearly 12 hours each day.
I Love College is my Wednesday segment that reviews the events that have taken place in college basketball in the last week, including high school signings, recruiting rumours, NBA Draft news, and other college news. Hit the jump to see what went on in the past week.
Because of an error posting last week, this week's segment will also include some news from two weeks ago.
In recruiting news, Tony Parker finally committed to a school, opting to go with UCLA, while two international 7-footers committed, with 7-3 Slovak centre Boris Bojanovski deciding on Florida State, while the second 7-footer, Przemek Karnowski from Poland decided on Gonzaga. Other players decided to transfer schools, with the most notable being Josiah Turner, who transferred to SMU, and Mark Lyons, who decided on Arizona, the school Turner left. Trent Lockett also transferred from Iowa State to Marquette to be closer to his ailing mother. Rumour has it that Anthony Bennett, the five star Canadian recruit of Findlay Prep, has narrowed his choices and will either join fellow Canadian Olu Ashaolu, or Chase Stanback and Mike Moser.
Some conferences are adding member and realigning, including Conference USA, the Atlantic-10, and the MWC, but that is really boring. If you think it's interesting, look it up.
Tim Abromaitis also got denied a sixth year, even though he only played a handful of games last year. Kentucky also visited the White House, which is pretty cool. And on a relating note, Anthony Davis has the extremely high honour of being given the chance to compete for a roster spot on the US Olympic team. Wow, that's hitting the big time...
In NBA Draft news, the order of the lottery had ties broken, and John Calipari is up to it again, possibly coaching a 6-11 player for the Dominican Republic to try to qualify for the Olympics, but I'm sure no suspicious activity will occur....
