...Of The Week is CB40's look back at what happened in the NBA in the past week, including the best dunk, statline, clutch play, and blunder of the week.
Hit the jump to see what went on in the first week of the NBA, This season shall be interesting...
It was a really good week for dunks in the NBA, with players coming out fresh from full training camps this years. There were all kinds of dunks, from posterizations to acrobatic finishes. Many honourable mentions this week, including LeBron's huge finish versus the Celtics, DeAndre Jordan
with his massive putback cram over Dwight Howard, Vince Carter flashing back to the early 2000s, Rudy Gay, who threw down the acrobatic reverse slam, and Kevin Durant, who welcomed the rookie Jonas Valanciunas into the NBA. This week's award, however, goes to Jeff Teague, who baptized Kevin Durant with his ferocious dunk driving to the hoop.
The first week also gave us a taste of clutch performers, with buzzer-beaters included. All three clutch plays this week are incredible, but the winner is separated because he set up his buzzer-beater with a game tying three. So, shout outs to Brandon Jennings, for his rainbow swish with 0.7 on the clock, and to Ray Allen, for his and-one four-point play agaisnt the Nuggets with seconds on the clock. But, Tony Parker gets the award, for his game-tying three, which was followed up by by a one-dribble pull-up for the win.
Shout outs this week go to Chris Bosh, who scored 40 points on on 15 of 22 shooting versus the Nuggets, to LeBron, who had a 20 point, 11 assist, 9 rebound performance versus the Nuggets as well, and to Greg Monroe, who recorded his first career triple-double versus the Kings, in which he had 21 points, 11 assists, and 12 boards. The winner this week, however, is James Harden, who dropped 45 points with his new team, the Houston Rockets, going 14 of 19 from the field, with 2 threes, and hitting 15 of 17 free throws, with 7 boards and 2 assists.
This week's Kanye Moment goes to the Los Angeles Lakers organization. In case you haven't heard, today the Lakers fired Mike Brown, their head coach. The Lakers' season is 5 games in, 5 GAMES IN!!! The Lakers added Steve Nash, and Dwight Howard in the offseason, and the expectations increased exponentially. The Lakers currently have a record of 1-4, and some might say they are 1-12 because of the preseason, but they're full of shit, as the preseason doesn't mean anything. But, this is the overreactive Laker mentality, and Brown took the brunt of the blame. Coaches do matter, but it is obscenely early to be firing a coach with tons of new players because of one rough stretch at the season's beginning. Whaddayadoing Lakers' management!!!!
