Just to show that I am not more favorable to the West Coast than the birth place of Hip Hop, here is an up-and-comer from the Bronx. Matthew Jefferson aka YC the Cynic aka YC for short has released a variety of mixtapes and his percussive multi-syllabic delivery and enunciation is reminiscent of KRS-One and Eminem while paired with the stereotypical yet never played message of growing up in a single family home in NYC. He claims that his biggest influence is Cee-Lo Green when the master was with Goodie Mob and Gnarles Barkley (I do not care who you are you cannot hate on either of those groups). His music has a clear message without being too cliche or overly-stereotypical. We will see the East Coast finally start passing the torch down to the next generation of kids including YC, whether willingly or not.
